Classic White Wedding at Bacara Resort

For every colorful affair that I fall madly in love with, there is always a classic, all white wedding following suit and it proves that an elegant, monochrome wedding is indeed a beautiful thing.  The details crafted by Alex Events, the crazy good blooms by Mark's Garden, the seaside backdrop of Bacara Resort & Spa and, of course, the stunning imagery by Patrick Moyer Photography all play a major role in that beauty. From the Bride... "At the end of the day, you will be married just the same.” This is what my mom and countless others kept telling me regarding the planning of our wedding. I also knew in my own heart; the most important aspect of the wedding was our commitment to each other. It wasn’t about the gown, the flowers, or the setting, but rather the sincerity and love behind our vows.

For that to ring true, I knew we needed to keep the wedding classic in style with elegant touches. Thus, “classic elegance” was developed. This was my measuring stick used for all things. First came selecting the venue. Joel hailing from Missouri and me from Texas, we knew that it would be easier to get married in the state that we had made our own. Once we decided on California, the great debate started- beautiful beach, urban city, or vineyard. Since most of our guests would be traveling great distances, Joel and I felt strongly about providing people a destination and setting that truly was unique to California. We narrowed it down to Santa Barbara. SB has always held a place in our hearts because it is where we first uttered, “I love you” to one another. With this, we knew it had to be at The Bacara, a classically elegant property if ever there was one.

Selecting a dress was next. When I was a little girl, my mom would say, “I can see you wearing Vera Wang.” This was in the back of my mind the whole time we were shopping. I tried on a few and then it just happened. I found the “one”. Was it classic? Yes! Was it elegant? Absolutely. Sold!

Joel and I had the pleasure of being able to work with some amazing people along the way, and we are eternally grateful. Alex from Alex Events helped to focus my architectural design brain from getting away from myself, She was an amazing sounding board for all of my ideas. In keeping with our theme, the flowers needed to be organic and soft. We didn’t want anything too overdone, too high, or too glitzy. Just simple. Mark’s Garden nailed it and made my dreams come to life.

A highlight of all the planning, was designing our paper goods. It was wonderful, in part, due to my good friend and owner of Love and Wit Paper Company Kate Weidlich’s amazing talent, and also because it was such a tangible part of making this whole thing feel real. From the vintage stamps to the wax seals, I have never been more excited to open a piece of mail. Even though I knew what to expect.

The photographer was a decision I was the most anxious about. I mean who really likes photos of themselves, right? Patrick Moyer eased our fears during our engagement shoot and we never looked back. He knocked it out of the park.

All of the prep and the planning beforehand made for a beautiful day. From the ocean side ceremony adorned with candle filled hurricanes and petals, to the lit chandeliers at dinner. Even right down to the milk and cookies to go after the reception. It was all classic, all elegant, and it was ours. And you know what? We’re married just the same, and “Aint it Enough.”
