From the Bride...In planning the wedding, Matt and I wanted to show our appreciation to all our friends and family who made the trip to La Quinta by focusing on giving them the most fun, comfortable, and memorable day possible. My family is from Washington and Matt’s is scattered throughout California and the US, so we wanted to recognize the effort made to celebrate with us. We agreed that the two biggest takeaways we had from other weddings were 1) the band and 2) the food, so we made those top priorities. Aesthetically, I am drawn to the glow of a desert sunset so that’s where I drew my inspiration: peaches, gold, bronze, set off by mint green and twinkly light.

Our ceremony began just as the sun dipped behind the desert mountains on an 85 degree November day. We were married by my childhood pastors who flew in, a husband and wife team that felt just right to us. We were really lucky to get our venue, Tradition Golf Club in La Quinta California, as they had only done a handful of weddings there before. I can’t say enough kind words about the people we worked with there.

For the reception, we turned an outdoor courtyard into a dining/dancing venue. It worked out perfectly to have the band perform on an elevated garden platform, and we built the biggest dance floor we could fit below. The dessert table was another big priority for me. We had three kinds of cake, cookies, tartlets, and to go bags to fill with my favorite candies: swedish fish (for my swedish grandmother), gummi peaches, and custom M & Ms (I mean, Matt + Megan... we had to!)

My favorite part of the day was immediately after the ceremony, and the giddy feeling of joy of being with my husband for the first time. Our photographers whisked us away for some sunset shots of just the two of us and it was really special. My second favorite part was at the reception, being out on the dancing floor belting out ‘80s tunes surrounded by family and friends from all different walks of our lives. Having all the people you hold dear in one place is an incredible feeling. Seeing people really appreciate the little touches we worked so hard on, like the 3D heart glasses and custom pashminas, was really great too!
