Modern Napa Wedding from Jose Villa + Laurie Arons
Somewhere on the corner of Jose Villa and anything and everything he photographs lies my happy place. And that happy place is exactly where I want to be right now because it entails a modern wedding crafted by Laurie Arons that will completely blow your mind and will forever live on our favorites list. Tucked inside are crazy good invites by Mr. Boddington's Studio mingling with ikat table runners, ghost chairs and the brightest, most dazzling peonies by Kathleen Deery Design. I am convinced there is not a better combo in all the land and honestly I could write an entire novel on the gush worthy moments tucked in this beauty but what fun would that be? From Laurie Arons Special Events... Fashionista and Gap merchandiser Ruthie is bold when it comes to style. She's never afraid to mix colors and prints in a modern and unexpected way. But she also has a true romantic side, as evident in the genuine love between her and her adorable groom Ian. We wanted the wedding to perfectly reflect their fun-loving style and push the envelope beyond traditional wedding design, but still be an elegant affair befitting such an important occasion. Our first step was creating the perfect inspiration board for Ruthie's vision, in collaboration with Kathleen Deery Design. We took notes from interior designers Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler, looked at current runway trends, found works of modern art in Ruthie's favorite color palettes and took inspiration from bright summer flowers. Then the fun began, selecting vendors and elements to make Ruthie's dream a reality.
The ceremony took place in an intimate tree grove, under a handcrafted chuppah draped among the branches. The cloth was saved as an heirloom to be used in the couple's new home. We kept the decor soft, with mostly white flowers and the setting's natural greenery. Just the bride's bright pink peony bouquet hinted at the bold colors to come. As guests departed the grove, they were treated to a spectacular panoramic view of the Napa Valley. The decor popped with pinks, oranges, yellows and blues, in a mix of geometric and ikat prints. Escort cards were displayed in a custom-made lucite heart art installation on the lawn, with an ombre effect of arrows indicating the guests' table number.
Inside the dinner tent, custom runners of rich blue ikat set the table for spectacular meal. Bright pink flowers, sunny bowls of lemons, dramatic candelabras and specially-selected 'objets' lined the centers of the long queens tables. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling of the tent, lined with drapy white fabric and custom valance and entryways. Guests danced away to Rick Cowling Band...with a special surprise performance by Ian on drums. Hardly anyone knew about it, including the bride, and the place went crazy. As the band was winding down, we revealed a secret dance lounge for late night. DJ Dojah kept the party going, as guests nibbled on the custom Paula LeDuc dessert buffet and took turns in front of the Smilebooth camera.
