From Vanessa of Alchemy Fine Events... For Jessica and Iyla’s wedding, we were inspired by their passion for art and design, as well as their heritage and the history behind the Bel Air Bay Club fo this Old Hollywood-inspired glamorous wedding. Jessica comes from a Persian family, while Ilya is Italian and Jewish, so we had a lot of fun blending influences from both culture and religion to create a memorable evening. The traditional Jewish ceremony took place on the Club’s outdoor property that has a striking panoramic view of the pacific ocean. With so much natural beauty already present, we wanted to keep it simple with one magnificent statement piece – a custom designed chuppah covered in blooming bougainvillea. Krista Jon executed our vision perfectly by covering the front of the chuppah entirely in vibrant fuschia blooms and draping the top with a piece of beautiful vintage crocheted lace.

Every detail down to the wedding party attire was planned with our vision in mind to keep our design original and cohesive. The bridesmaids wore an ombre fade of blue hued Amsale dresses, while the groomsmen sported custom designed yarmulkes, bowties and pocket squares. All five of the flower girls received a specially designed tutu inspired dress to show off as they walked down the aisle spreading petals from their gold baskets. Above all, Jessica was a stunning bride in her gown and shoes. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a champagne tower and an ombre fade of French macaroons for a quick bite en route to cocktail hour. In this fun, outdoor space boasting a gorgeously decorated and candle lit fountain, guests were welcomed to a traditional Persian feast table overflowing with fruits and nuts which was accompanied by a table full of hot Persian appetizers. The influences in heritage from the music to the food to the décor all set the mood for a festive night to follow.

From the Bride... For us, our marriage fit a “coming home” theme. Ilya and I had met and had crushes on one another in high school, but went our separate ways afterwards, living on opposite sides of the country. We reconnected 11 years later and in the process of falling in love, were both able to move back home to Los Angeles. We wanted our wedding to represent our backgrounds and our common ground growing up in Southern California. We envisioned an old California glam look, mixed with an exotic flair to represent our Mexican, Persian and Jewish heritage. When we discovered the Bel Air Bay Club, an old California Beach Club which had been built in the 1920s, we knew immediately that this venue had the history, Old California Spanish architecture, and beautiful ocean setting that we had envisioned.  And funnily enough, we both had grown up 10 minutes away from the venue; it was in our back yards our entire lives yet we had never been inside.

We drew on the elegance of the Old Hollywood art deco era with vintage crystal decanters, gilded gold accents and chandeliers, some lace touches, mirrored boxes, and many candles as part of the decor. Our wedding planner Vanessa created a gorgeous traditional Persian fruit table for our cocktail hour. We incorporated our Jewish heritage with a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, and had a traditional Klezmer band greet guests and play music for our ceremony. The same Rabbi that performed Ilya’s bar mitzvah 20 years prior married us.  Our incredible evening ended with mini ice-cream sandwiches and a sparklers send- off from our friends and family. We feel so lucky to have had the most amazing, love-filled day surrounded by the people who are most special to us.
