NYC Wedding at The Bowery Hotel from Brookelyn Photography
SMPers, you are about to see a Halloween wedding done oh so right. A masquerade masterpiece, if I may say. The beautiful Bride refers to her wedding as dark romance with a modern-meets-rustic spin, and I'll just refer to it as stunning. It's Halloween glam brought to life by Poppies & Posies and topped off with gorgeous paper goods from Rifle Paper Co., making for a less spooky and more stylish type of soiree. The Bowery Hotel set the scene for a Halloween this duo and their guests won't want to forget, and thanks to all the amazing images from Brookelyn Photography they'll never have to. See so much more here!
From the Bride... Jay and I met six years ago on a train during our daily commute from New Jersey to New York. After weeks of seeing one another from afar, I said to myself I HAVE to meet this mysterious and handsome "boy from the train!" So one October night back in 2005, I decided to get off on his stop (which was two before mine, mind you) and tap him on the shoulder. That conversation led to another and then ultimately to our first date. We wanted to meet someplace reasonably close to both our jobs, so we wound up picking the arch in Washington Square Park. From then on, that became our "spot" — a place we could always meet before dates or drinks that came to hold a special place in our hearts. So it was only fitting that five years later, on almost the exact date we first met there, it was under our arch that Jay proposed! And so began about 10 months of planning what was, ultimately, the most amazing day of our lives.
Our venue criteria was pretty simple: we were looking for someplace in New York that had tons of character and great food but was also dog-friendly. That was really something of a deal-breaker for us because we knew we wanted Orin, our beloved French Bulldog, to be there. Immediately, we thought of one place: The Bowery Hotel (which is catered by the amazing Italian restaurant Gemma)! Our date, October 29th, was special for several reasons. October, as we saw it, was "our month," the 29th was my late grandmother's birthday, and it allowed us to incorporate one of our favorite holidays: Halloween! The Gothic design of The Bowery was the perfect setting for our theme of "dark romance with a modern-meets-rustic spin." That meant decorating the room with ornate birdcages, crow feather bouquets and centerpieces; covering the tables with gray, rattan wheat linens; silver antique mercury glass details; and lighting the entire space with candles. We had some amazing help to turn this vision into reality: Poppies & Posies, who provided most of the décor and all of the florals; Rifle Paper Co., who custom-designed our invite as well as all of our "day of" paper items; and Reem Acra, who designed my wedding gown. She even gifted me a beautiful, one-of-a-kind matching lace mask to wear for our masquerade cocktail hour! Thanks to them and all our family and friends, the whole day was filled with countless happy memories.
Two of our favorite moments were definitely the ceremony and the cocktail hour. We worked with an amazing officiant to create a ceremony that not only conveyed our love to one another but also showcased it to everyone else as well. From the music to our vows, everything was so romantic, emotional and personal — there wasn't a dry eye in the room by the end. And, as mentioned before, we chose a masquerade theme for our cocktail hour in honor of Halloween, and just seeing everyone get into the spirit, wearing their masks and taking pictures, was so much fun! Our day was all the more memorable for another reason: that morning New York was hit with its first October snowstorm since 1925! Naturally, this threw a bit of a wrench in our plans to take pictures at the place where our whole romance started — under the arch in Washington Square Park — but looking back, snow, in New York, in October is literally a once in a lifetime thing. Just like marrying the person of your dreams.
