Get ready for some pure photo shoot magic. Karen Wise plus Ang Weddings and Events plus Rountree Flowers plus Naturally Delicious magic. Inspiration worthy of a high kick or two aka: SMP's kind of magic. It's to be expected, I suppose, from the talents involved in crafting this winter-inspired masterpiece, but expected or not - it will surely leave you loving every last image. If you just can't possibly get enough (we completely understand) the gallery is chock full of this talented team's awe-inspiring work, and they top it all off with a behind the scenes film from Love in Progress. If that isn't photo shoot magic, I just don't know what is.
Brooklyn Historic Mansion Shoot by Karen Wise Photography + Ang Weddings and Events
From Ang Weddings & Events... Our styled shoot was held at a gorgeous town house in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The 10,000-square-foot Queen Anne mansion was built in 1887 as a private residence and later used by the Brooklyn Public Library, a Catholic girls’ school, and eventually a recording studio, with rooms rented out to Pratt students. The house is a private residence, which is available only on a selective basis for intimate weddings. The house and the incredible pieces of art it contains were a great source of inspiration for our shoot. We wanted to create a winter inspiration shoot with a contemporary aesthetic. To give it that winter feel, we used different shades of white and gray. We also added an accent of teal, which was inspired by one of the rooms in the house. The letterpressed invitations, designed by Regas, used the bold patterns of a wooden tray as inspiration. We kept the font simple and bold, with a bright splash of teal in the envelope liner. Regas continued this design through the escort cards, place cards, menus and signs. The tables were named for different Brooklyn neighborhoods.
For the table linens, we used a white cotton underlay and a charcoal gray crystal organza on top. Rountree Flowers kept the floral design modern by using a single type of flower in each square white container. The centerpieces were composed of narcissus, ranunculus and the akito rose. Quince branches, which are available in winter, were used to give the table some height and add to the visual impact. We used frosted square votives to bring warmth to the table. Elegant eucharis lilies were placed on the mantelpiece over the ornate fireplace. Square pillar candles of varying sizes in clear square glass containers surrounded the lilies. The mirror above the mantelpiece faces another mirror in the hallway. The flickering candlelight reflecting in the glass containers and mirrors multiplied the effect much more, giving the room a romantic glow. Naturally Delicious created a selection of tasty hors d’oeuvres, including a smoked bacon and polenta panini with mozzarella and basil aioli. These were arranged on crystal agate and porcelain platters. Our winter white dessert table included a Tahitian vanilla wedding cake with white chocolate mousse with passion fruit and raspberry sauce.
Our models for the shoot were a recently married couple, Abbi and Luke, both comedians. Abbi’s elegant satin gown — Genevieve by Angelo Lambrou — was structured with clean lines giving it a contemporary feel. Her bouquet was composed of French ranunculus, frittilaria and double freesia, wrapped with a silk teal ribbon. Duncan Quinn creates impeccably tailored bespoke suits. Luke wore a blue birdseye suit from their limited-edition ready-to-wear line. His boutonniere was a single eucharis lily with a gray ribbon. The favors were different sweet treats in white boxes of varying size. We wrapped the boxes with different silver and white ribbons. The idea being that you picked a box that you liked the look of, and the treat inside was a surprise! Our photographer, Karen Wise, made the beautiful portraits, food and still life images. Karen used mostly film for the shoot, adding to the juxtaposition of a modern design in a historic venue, creating a classic look with vibrant colour. Love in Progress filmed a documentary style video of the shoot coming together.
